What is it? An escape room is a themed interactive adventure designed to test your problem solving skills and teamwork.
How does it work? You have just 45 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles and progress from stage-to-stage until you escape.
Who is it for? Suitable for families, friends, couples, work groups, clubs, special occasions and more.
Where is it? Escape Room Geelong - The Mad Scientist® opened on 3 December 2015 in Belmont and has had thousands of visitors from local, interstate and international destinations.
Is there an Age Limit? Yes - ages 18 or older and there are no exceptions. Groups have lost their money by turning up with persons under 18 (no entry and no refund).
Will we need ID? For proof of age (those who appear under 25 years old).
Can we buy tickets via other sites (eg Eventbrite / TryBooking)? No. We only sell bookings via our site: www.geelongescaperoom.com.au We welcome reports of any unauthorized ticket sales via our contact us page.
Do we sell Vouchers? Yes - as of 19 Oct 2024 we sell vouchers (hard copy available). Validity: Three years from the date of purchase. Delivery Options:

Are there Toilets? No. Nearest available restroom is two minutes away (open in Maps)
Do we or the staff have to role play? No.
Is there any blood and gore? No. We aim to provide clever, clean fun and tasteful design. You won't find anything grotesque or unsettling.
Do we have to Crawl, Climb or Crouch Down? No.
Are we really locked inside? You are never truly locked inside and you can walk out at any time.

Adding extra people at-the-door on the day Please note: We do not accept cash on the day & we do not have EFT payment facilities. You can either use the link in your email or your host will have a QR code to scan and pay.
Do you take cash? No, all our reservations and payments are online by PayPal or Stripe (Credit or Debit Card).
Do you do special requests? Yes, just contact us in advance to arrange (eg hidden present / birthday message).
Is it hot and stuffy? No. The rooms are air conditioned/heated to maintain a comfortable temperature.
How clean are the rooms? Staff use alcohol wipes to wipe down when resetting between bookings and open air windows ventilate the rooms when not in use.
I'm Claustrophobic: Is it okay? Sure. There are no tunnels, booths or tight corridors. This escape room is one of the largest in Victoria. Attending as just a pair will also help.
Are we in the dark a lot? No, there are no torches and all the stages are well lit. You also have control of the light switches.
Will it be safe? Yes - we take safety seriously.
Will we be grouped with others? No. Your booking reserves the whole room for you and your team.
Can I transfer my booking to others? No, bookings are non-transferable. You may change the people attending as long as the original person who booked remains.
What if some persons in our group cannot attend? We refund you for persons unable to attend subject to a minimum of two persons.
What if our group as a whole cannot attend? If your group is unable to attend (and you are ineligible for rescheduling or a refund) we can provide you with Second Chance Offers. Second chance offers are repeated email offers from us to attend a specific session at a date and time of our choosing. Second chance offers are provided over a one-month period with no further offers made thereafter (your booking becomes forfeit). Second chance offers are linked to future bookings (we offer you times before or after an existing booking). There are no guarantees of a second chance offer. Second chance offers are given to groups refused entry as a whole (not individuals) and do not apply to terminated sessions.
What if we just want a refund or to rebook? Requests to cancel or reschedule must be made with at least seven days notice in writing. No refunds or rescheduling is permitted inside seven days notice. If you are refunded the transaction fee portion is non-refundable (1.75% charged by Paypal or Stripe).
Parking There are three off-street car parks and one on-street car park.
How long does the Experience take? Each experience usually takes around one hour.
Arrival You should arrive 5-10 minutes early but no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time.
Loss of Booking (Late Arrival) If no one from your group is present 15 minutes after your booked starting time the booking is forfeit and staff will lock the door and leave. Contact us to apply for second chance offers.
Loss of Booking (Persons under 18 years of age) If a group contains persons under 18 the staff will not allow entry (bring ID if under 21). Your booking will become forfeit (we do not permit persons under 18 to wait outside alone). Contact us to apply for second chance offers.
Loss of Booking (0.00 Alcohol) If any members of the group have consumed alcohol the booking will be forfeit with no refund. The alcohol limit is 0.00 (nothing to drink). If you are refused entry contact us to apply for second chance offers.
What if we get stuck on a puzzle? If you get stuck you may ask for a clue via a radio (we don't assist unless asked).
How will you know where we are? CCTV surveillance is used to monitor your safety and progress.
Can we take photos? No. Pictures and recordings are not permitted.
Does the experience require any skill or general knowledge? The puzzles are intuitive and do not require any technological, academic or physical expertise. We do recommend bringing reading glasses if you have them.
What do we wear? You won't be crawling, jumping or running but you will be active. We recommend wearing normal casual wear. Please avoid wearing high heels if possible.
Is there secure storage? Yes - your items can be stored securely inside the escape room with you at all times.
Can we bring food and drink? Food and drink is not permitted within the escape room. Bottled water is ok.
Medical information Anyone who has an injury, heart condition or is pregnant must let the operator know prior to commencement.
Disability Support Organizations (eg NDIS) Bookings by disability service providers are not permitted without prior registration. Registration includes providing us with your insurance details, any registration details (as an NDIS provider) and signing an agreement where you agree to: 1) Convey all relevant information to disability clients, their guardians and any attending social workers (no food/drink, no restroom on site, no photos or recordings, ages 18 and over, etc); 2) Accept liability for the actions of all social workers and disability clients in attendance; and 3) Send out, receive back and lodge our liability waiver pdf signed by each disability client's legal guardian. Use our Contact Us page to get in touch and request a pdf copy of the agreement and waiver forms for distribution. Once we receive the agreement and signed waiver forms we will forward a payment link to enable you to book in those who have lodged signed waiver forms. As a small capacity venue (two three or four persons only) we do not do discounts, concessions nor accept companion cards.
Smoking not permitted The entire property is a smoke-free zone.
Alcohol We have a 0.00 BAC requirement. Anyone suspected of having consumed alcohol will be refused entry.
Will we receive a confirmation email? Yes. All the essential information will be sent to you upon confirmation of your booking. NOTE: Don't forget to check your junk mail if the email does not appear in your inbox.
I didn't receive a confirmation email Sometimes an auto correct or typo error will mean we receive an email address that does not work. If you have not received a confirmation email please contact us.
Do we hand out Donations to Clubs or Charities? In place of donations we offer the opportunity for you to host a fundraiser event with us, for which we donate a portion of the proceeds back to you. To find out more click here.
Do you allow on-selling? No. On-selling is where another service provider uses our service as part of their own service. Examples: A Mystery Picnic Adventure that offers a food hamper + our experience + movie tickets all sold as one package;
I run an event business. Can I bundle your escape room experience into a package deal? No. As above. Unauthorized sales of our service as part of a package deal will result in refusal of entry without refund.

Pets / Smoking The entire property is a no-pets and smoke-free zone.
Is the escape room within a residence? Many businesses such as medical clinics, hair dresser and accountants operate with a residence attached at the rear of the venue and Escape Room Geelong - The Mad Scientist® is the same. The entrance to the Escape Room is at the front of the venue so you will not pass through, hear or see the residence at any stage.
Is it legitimate? Yes. Much time and care has been taken to ensure the Escape Room is professional, safe and compliant.
